History of the Shul

The Shul was opened under the auspices of the Federation of Synagogues in 1999 with a view to creating a family community that takes its growth in Judaism and prayer seriously. Shabbat services were initially held in Allum Hall under the leadership of Rabbi Dovid and Shoshana Tugendhaft who remained with the community for 6 years. The Kehilla moved to its current premises in 2004.

The community was led by Rabbi Raphi and Deborah Garson for eighteen years until 2023.

Since 2023, Rabbi Yisroel and Carri Solomon are the spiritual leaders of the Ohr Yisrael communnity
